How efficiently you breathe + airway size literally decides your social anxiety and inhibition. Anxiety is mostly just you feeling like you are "suffocating" bc you are breathing through a straw (narrow airway) that collapses under too much pressure + Your breathing pattern is dysfunctional (can't take full breath in and out bc of muscle imbalance) so your only option is to hyperventilate (chest breathe) which obviously puts in you in fight or flight.

So if you are an high inhibitioncel yeah your breathing sucks that's why people feel unconfortable around you your body language and pheromones are signalling danger to other people. That's why you get awkward when talking to new people. It's not normal.

Breathing determines your confidence and confidence and good posture (required for proper breathing) decides your social status. If you stand and walk with shit posture and then look people in the eyes (if you even can bc of your anxiety) with that intense look of stress yeah people are not gonna wanna talk to you and automatically respect you less. They are gonna subconsciously associate you with danger and anxiety (yeah you make other people anxious when talking to you).

So yeah people are wired to avoid danger and stressful things goatis is absolutely right about this.

That constant low level anxiety/stress when doing anything even without talking to people will fuck your health + sleep. And damages your social life + dating.

If you want, measure your BOLT score and let me know how much you got (read instructions)

@aiden You can feel if you are chest breathing. How fast you are breathing. Efficient breathing is slow and longer exhales than inhales. Efficient is only your ribcage expanding like a balloon.

@kas-d Buteyko breathing is like stretching. If you don't adress the root cause, you'll be endlessly stretching but you'll never get improvement.

Buteyko breathing is conciously and effortfully slowing your breathing to increase your co2 tolerance. Yes it does lower your stress temporarily. You'll temporarily feel how it feels like to have better breathing. But your actual breathing pattern didn't change so you will quickly get back to shallower breathing and the co2 will just blow off.

When you actually breathe well you will effortlessly and unconciously breathe slower and your co2 tolerance will be higher permanently.

I've done research about buteyko I once thought it was a solution for me but these buteyko gurus literally say you have to do like 3 hours of breathwork a day ideally. So it's obvious that it's just a band aid.

That being said, it can be good to use as a tool: before doing actual breathing retraining and before sleep to kind of build a buffer of co2 tolerance which will blow off during the night but it can help you fall asleep faster.

you can also do reduced breathing meditation to train your lungs too, this will make it more subcouncious and increase co2 in ur system

Yk my anxiety lessens when I breathe out with intention to release tension from my whole body. And I do this all day when I can remember, meditation with this has like 2x the effect it normally has

@Shaps Reduced can help actually improve your breathing bc you need to use the correct muscles to significantly slow down breathing. This will slightly train them. The co2 tolerance will quickly rebound tho.

You will get the most progress if you align your whole body + do breath training against resistance like balloon exhaling. If your exhaling muscles are strong, you will automatically exhale deeper, and more controlled and slow. This will actually increase co2 tolerance permanently.

Exhaling muscles (which pull the ribs down) will also set up the diaphragm in a good position to access full range of motion. Together with the pelvic floor they will create a kind pressure chambre that will correctly distribute the pressure of the breath (diaphragm) without leaking into unwanted parts. Here's a good pic that shows it:

As you can see having optimal breathing requires the body to be perfectly aligned.

The diaphragm is one of the most important muscles for core stability, which is essential for optimal posture and gait. Breathing retraining and posture retraining are essentially the same thing.

Bad posture = bad breathing = high stress and bad sleep = bad health

It influences your health in a lot of other ways as well but I won't get too far into that. Maybe I'll just say about the fascia it gets tight and dry so bad blood flow so all your primal nutrients can't actually get to your skin. CO2 also dilates blood vessels so even better blood flow. The breath also moves your organs which I believe also has it's function.

Here's some more high IQ information
