Why do Olympic Athletes drink water?

I just don't understand why they drink water when it would dehydrate them. All those millions of dollars in research to be the most optimal for a sport and they dehydrate themselves

Yet somehow, we know better right? because it's a solvent and makes you more thirsty? are we sure we have it right when it comes to water?

@Klaudio_Bosi But why would the coaches dehydrate their athletes for Such a high prestigious competition? Like a bunch of 14 year old's and goatis have figured it out yet these people haven't? I just find it interesting that's all.

I know what you mean with cooked foods, I am talking specifically on water though.
