This evidence post exists to ensure that the evidence for the raw primal diet is scientifically aligned with the overwhelming empirical experience of positive health results on the diet.
What is health?
Health is the objective state in which all tissues in the human body perform their biochemical functions as they should for natural growth, maintenance, and repair. This healthy biochemical state results in the absence of disease and the presence of positive characteristics of health, such as a general sense of well-being in one's own body.
What causes health?
Health for humans is mainly caused by eating other healthy animals' tissues as the chemicals in them fuel the repair, maintenance and growth of our own animal tissues.
What causes unhealthiness?
Unhealthiness in humans is fundamentally caused by consuming unhealthy animals that contain toxins within them, non-animal tissues such as plants (which have low bioavailability and low micronutrient density), and otherwise damaged animal tissue, such as that altered by heating or freezing.
What causes disease?
Disease in humans occurs when the body cannot maintain some bodily system or tissue in proper working order because it lacks the necessary micronutrients or chemicals for the biochemical reactions that repair and sustain that system or tissue. Over time, this shortage causes the tissue or system to malfunction and gradually degenerate due to insufficient supply of those essential chemicals. Symptoms serve as direct signals to the person that a particular tissue or system is currently not functioning properly or is under stress. Prolonged stress without enough nutrients or chemicals for repair causes ongoing tissue or system breakdown. This degeneration can develop into a diagnosable disease, which then continues to worsen and take more severe forms. Also toxin/s interacting with human tissue is dumped into the stress category as toxins stress human tissues.
What causes aging?
Aging is caused by adaptation to suboptimal amounts of chemicals that shift body's priority from DNA repair and maintenance to tissue maintenance, repair and overall survival.
This is a spectrum, the more unhealthier you eat the faster you age. The more unhealthy you eat the more body focuses on short-term survival. The healthier you eat the more human body focuses on long-term survival as short-term survival is achieved already.
If you eat what causes maximum health for humans (rawprimal diet) and avoid environmental toxins stressing the body then biological aging will be much slower. Nobody can of course know the life-span of individual human being as injuries can happen. Injuries/disease reduce life-span as body has to do focus on massive repairing while deprioritizing DNA repair and maintenance. But we know biological aging will be slower on rawprimal diet as the human body can focus on repairing and maintaining their DNA on each cell.
What influences growth?
When nutrient/chemical resources are limited, the human body must allocate them dynamically among competing demands, such as growth, short-term tissue repair, and long-term DNA maintenance, trading off investment in one area to sustain others.
Rapid growth (e.g., during periods of high demand like puberty or recovery from injury/disease) requires diverting substantial resources toward anabolic processes. This can reduce allocation to somatic maintenance and repair, leading to accumulated damage and accelerated biological aging over time.
However, when an individual is in a state of true nutritional abundance and health providing ample bioavailable chemicals/nutrients, the body can support these processes more concurrently without severe trade-offs. During rapid growth phases, sufficient resources allow continued investment in DNA repair and maintenance, minimizing damage accumulation and preventing accelerated aging.
What are deficiencies?
A deficiency is a lack of something the body needs for normal tissue repair, maintenance, and growth. Fundamental deficiencies involve lack of micronutrients and fats and proteins. Nutrients obtained from diet are fundamental because they provide the direct molecular building blocks and biochemical cofactors the body uses to form cells, enzymes and hormones.
Secondary deficiencies involve natural human behavioral inputs that support biological regulation, such as sunlight, physical movement (movement, not exertion), sleep, and fresh air. These secondary factors are important because they support the proper functioning of the body’s physiological systems.
What is toxic?
A substance is toxic if it causes harm to cells or biological systems. Synthetic substances can be toxic as they can disrupt tissue function and biological systems because the body cannot properly process or eliminate them. Toxicity can also arise from natural substances that are out of balance, meaning a substance becomes harmful when it is present in excessive amounts or accumulates in the wrong location in the body so it starts harming the tissues.
Human body works fundamentally biochemically only. Human body is made from chemicals and it uses chemical reactions to repair, maintain and grow itself.
Human body never does anything maladaptive, it always tries to be as adaptive as possible. As humans goal is survival of their own genes at the end. So if you are unhealthy, your body is trying its best but you are just not fueling it with optimal chemicals for the chemical reactions.
For human body to work like it should optimally, it needs all of the micronutrients/chemicals in adequate amounts (the most valuable and critical chemicals for repair, growth and maintenance of tissues). The bigger the body the more chemicals/micronutrients it needs. On RawPrimal you obviously get all macronutrients so don't need to focus on that, just eat enough fatty raw animal foods.
Human body can't make micronutrients without nutrition.
Each biochemical reaction your body makes, it needs chemicals and specifically micronutrients for it, if you wouldn't have micronutrients you would die in hours to days as repairing and maintaining your bodily tissue wouldn't be possible.
And if you are deficient in some micronutrient, your body can't make some biochemical reactions like it should, it can't repair some tissue, so it needs to adapt and this adaptation is called disease. Body will still keep the tissue alive (maintaining) even though it's malfunctioning.
And when you miss some micronutrients the body doesn't instantly of course cause disease it first shows as milder symptoms but inside your body there is happening adaptation when tissues are becoming less like they should like nourished humans. Then the body shifts to survival mode, it starts focusing on short-term survival like keeping tissues maintained short-term, but repairing broken tissues is limited. But long-term maintenance goes down so your body start aging faster as it cant focus on maintaining DNA integrity. Every chemical in body needs constant maintaining and repairing, even DNA. DNA needs to be repaired constantly as it's the root which informs each of your cells how to "act".
First there is the sun where all of the energy comes to the world, it attaches to life and then escapes back to space. Then there are the atoms, the chemicals already here. Carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, minerals. These atoms cycle endlessly. When organisms die, they decompose, and their atoms return to the soil, air, and water to be used again. Matter is recycled infinitely. Plants are the true beginning of the biological chain. They capture sunlight and turn it into living plant tissue. Herbivores eat the plants. Smaller predators eat the herbivores. Larger predators eat them in turn. At each step, nutrients become more biologically concentrated, organized into muscle, organs, fats, and complex animal tissues. And at the top of this hierarchy are humans. We can eat the most concentrated nutrients from the big predators. A large predator is, in a way, built from millions of plants. The herbivores ate the plants. The predator ate the herbivores. The nutrients have been filtered, selected, and refined through multiple living systems. And the end product is the raw animal which is the healthiest food available. The atoms in your body were once from ancient plants, animals, even dinosaurs, and before that stars. After you die, those atoms in your body currently will return to the cycle and eventually become plants again, and perhaps animals again.
Cooking alters chemicals/nutrients to less bioavailable form. The higher the heat the more it destroys and damages the chemicals/nutrients. Heat changes chemicals structure, changing structure means the chemicals/nutrients got damaged objectively for bioavailability as it doesn’t have the structure of a proper normal chemical, in the body those damaged chemicals need to be repaired before they can be used. Raw animal food is not damaged so it can be just processed like food should, it doesn't need to be repaired first.
Body can’t process damaged chemicals/nutrients as optimally as non-damaged chemicals so they would be usable in biochemical processes (maintenance, repair, growth), they are excreted out of the system as they are unusable or harder to process as non-heated chemicals. Heat is damage. Human body is made from non-heat-damaged chemicals, when you eat cooked food it introduces damaged chemicals that are not usable and the body needs to extract the small amount of chemicals/nutrients that are not damaged from the cooking. As fire damaged human hand is considered damaged, so is cooked animal meat.
Also the time that the raw animal tissue is in environment like fridge or room temperature after slaughter it causes damage every second. Physics entropy damages the 3D structure of cells. Optimally raw animal tissue should be eaten right after slaughter. So fridge that is (+1'C) slows down entropy. Since entropy that causes raw animal foods to become lower quality nutritionally is caused by chemical reactions, the cold slows down the chemical reactions that cause entropy (nutrient structural damage) then it stays fresh longer.
Freezers (under 0'C) in cold temperature causes damage also to the 3D structure of micronutrients/chemicals in raw animal tissue by cold denaturation, ice crystal formation and mechanical damage.
Microbes also live on nutrition like humans, they help humans by processing dead food in ways we can't as optimally and they keep some nutrients to reproduce and help us process foods, keep the gut clean of dead food mass and toxins. Microbe that lives inside human gut is much more adaptive than who lives in a ground in terms of reproduction, so the microbe also benefits from being inside human gut.
Microbes eat everything that's dead. That can be seen in nature also as they decompose dead matter like leafs and everything on surfaces. So in human gut parasites and bacteria eat only the dead and damaged matter and leave the alive human gut lining alone, because human gut immune system kills parasites fast if they try to attack the gut walls which they very rarely do as they know they will be killed because of evolution programmed them like that. These microbes reduce the amount of dead food mass from your gut and reduce it to only 1%-5% of the original waste mass size.
Also eating high quality raw animal foods from healthy animals can’t even cause illness. If someone got sick temporarily from eating raw animal food then it means the animal was sick itself from the toxins, and the toxins just moved to you from the animal. If the animal is healthy it won't cause illness obviously. Some people will still have detox symptoms after starting the diet but it's different from getting actually sick.
Why only 3 types of evidence gives proof that this diet is the most healthy?
because these first 3 points directly explain how human body works fundamentally by biochemistry and physics. It explain everything that interacts with human biochemical system through nutrition:
As we earlier mentioned, body works fundamentally with chemicals only → the only thing where we get chemicals from is food (We are made from food, only food)
Eat healthy animals and you are going to become healthy animal.
Argument: Bacteria and parasites cause illness
Answer: False. Bacteria and parasites break down and clear dead matter from the gut. Sick people’s guts are packed with undigested dead cooked food their bodies can’t process properly. Industrial toxins from processed/cooked foods get trapped in that waste. When microbes start cleaning the dead buildup, they release those bound toxins back into circulation causing detox symptoms. The microbes are just doing their job; the fault is eating dead, toxic food that creates the mess in the first place. Raw animal foods don’t leave this garbage behind as they are digested by bacteria and enzymes properly and their structure is intact.

EVIDENCE STANDARDS
Explanation why:
studies are not science.
Definition of science:
Science is the practice of forming claims about the natural world that are empirically grounded, rigorously testable, reproducible, and falsifiable.
Empirical: grounded in careful, objective observation of the real world, with clear measurement methods.
Rigorously testable: the claim can be examined through well-defined, repeatable procedures that control for bias and confounding factors.
Reproducible: independent researchers, using the same methods, can replicate the study and arrive at consistent results.
Falsifiable: there exists a conceivable observation or experiment that could definitively show the claim is false.
If any of those fail, it’s not science.
Where most studies break is that they are not rigorously testable. Observational studies can’t fully isolate variables. Lifestyle, genetics, socioeconomic factors, all confound results.
On the other hand when we use biochemistry especially in human physiology. We can generate information that is highly scientific.
Biochemistry is excellent as it stays on the highly objective chemistry and then derives only the as closely as possible objective theories from biology that are closely linked to chemistry and filters the more fringe biological theories that are not derived using chemistry. Biochemistry is truly as close we can get to real science which is empirical, rigorously testable, reproducible and falsifiable.
EXAMPLE HOW STUDY FAILS (Fruit and vegetable consumption reduce risk of death):
https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/fruit-vegetable-consumption-reduce-risk-death?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Empirical: YES
The researchers collected real data from large groups of people over many years and measured what they ate and who died.
Rigorously testable: NO
They didn’t control people’s diets. Other factors like exercise, genetics, and lifestyle also affect health, so the effect of fruits and vegetables alone can’t be fully tested in isolation.
Falsifiable: NO
The study can’t definitively prove or disprove that eating more fruits and vegetables causes longer life.
Exactly reproducible: NO
People self-report what they eat, which can be inaccurate, and small changes in how the study is done can change the results.
Conclusion: one the most popular studies about vegetables linked to health gets proven as unscientific.
Correlation doesn't mean causation.
TRULY SCIENTIFIC STUDY IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR HUMAN BEHAVIORAL NUTRITION
Every human would need to be identical (genetically, epigenetically, microbiomally, objectively etc.) from the start -> Impossible. Even identical twins diverge over time due to tiny environmental differences.
Exact same behaviors/lifestyle in every way (exercise, stress, sleep, pollution exposure, social life, etc.) → Impossible. Humans live very unique lives.
Perfect compliance with the exact diet (same veggies, same amounts, same preparation, no cheating, no substitutions) for decades → Pretty much impossible long-term. People get bored, get sick, change preferences, or just forget.
Start from birth and follow to natural death → Basically impossible. The only way to capture full lifetime effects.
These tiny and big natural human differences amplify over decades, influencing how each person responds to the same diet or lifestyle. No matter how controlled a study is, participants are biologically and lifestyle wise unique in ways we can’t fully account for.

We believe strongly in the natural human diet that allowed us to evolve, now its starting to go downhill, we need to change that and people need to start eating again like we naturally should (raw animals) as the core, our bodies are deeply adapted to it.

People on the RawPrimal frequently report reversal of long-standing so-called “chronic” and “incurable” conditions after switching, often after years or decades of medical failure. Also overall physical and mental health is profoundly improved more than when compared to any other diet.
For the detailed reasoning, see the Evidence thread:
These outcomes are not universal, success depends on how strictly someone follows the diet, how much damage was done by prior medical treatments and individual detoxification load, but the pattern of radical positive effects is consistent enough that it is the main reason the diet continues to spread by word of mouth consistently for decades.
Simply find the most accessible raw animal foods you can.
Ensure the raw animal foods you eat are good quality and with no toxins.
