I hear a lot of people say things like "you should never eat grocery store beef raw always cook it"

    • I haven't heard great reasoning for this and aajonus has said many times that there were periods of his life where he ate enormous amounts of raw meat from the grocery store without any issues, even during "outbreaks" of mad cow disease.
    • Logically, in order for a cooked food to be better than a raw food, there has to be a 'harmful pathogen' on the meat that needs to be killed, or natural toxins that can be denatured in the process of cooking.
    • But people on the primal diet typically subscribe to the terrain theory, meaning, from what I've collected, that there's no such thing as inherently harmful microbes. And meat doesn't truly have any natural toxins in that sense, unless you cook it.
So what's the problem with grocery store meat, anyway?
    • Raising animals conventionally is a truly horrific process that typically consists of depriving the animals of everything natural. (Sunlight, their natural diet, ect.) In doing so, perhaps the microbes living in the animal become toxic? -This is the most plausible theory I've heard in support of cooking conventional meat. Although, I did hear it from Frank Tufano the sourdough maxxer, so maybe it should be taken with a grain of salt.
    • the second most plausible theory I've heard was that the jabs and antibiotics that the animals get, (especially applicable for chickens) makes the meat itself toxic and that cooking could neutralize these toxins. I myself do not subscribe to this belief, however, if someone can explain the chemistry behind this well enough I may come around to it. I would expect that cooking would make this worse.
    • All I know is that I've had raw supermarket meat a few times and it never messed me up, so Idk, maybe some other people can weigh in here.

Obviously, food quality is majorly important, all I'm saying is - why take a bad thing and risk making it worse? This topic could help many people out who don't have proper food access.

    • BTW, this forum seems like an amazing resource for open-minded individuals, many thanks to the owner! I think a lot of people's health will be profoundly impacted. 🙂

Usually I do eat it raw and I haven't had any issues at all but I'm still much on the fence. It never tastes as good as it does fresh from the local farm.

@leo Gotta agree with you there. There's something about the taste of that nice grass fed beef that beats the grains.
