Is it ever better to cook your meat? Revisited

    Should you ever cook meat?

    • It's a topic that is often up for debate. Many primal dieters online argue that if the beef is bad quality, you should always cook it so that you 'neutralize the toxins'.

    • This has not been substantiated. With the exceptions of antibiotics, the toxins in meat cannot be denatured by heat.

    • Heavy metals and other toxic injections won't be affected by cooking it. Keep in mind that when you cook it, you actually add toxins like AGEs and heterocyclic amines.

    • So, all that you are doing when cooking it is making the meat more toxic.

    Another thing to consider

    • Many of the toxins that burden us are fat-soluble.

    • According to Aajonus, raw fats and cooked fats behave entirely differently in the body. The way you are supposed to digest fats is selective. If a raw fat has a toxin bound to it, the body will not absorb it. It will simply be passed through the digestive system, and you will likely have diarrhea.

    • This is observed in Aajonus' experiment with swordfish. He fed one group of animals raw swordfish and another cooked swordfish. The group that ate cooked swordfish absorbed roughly 98% of the mercury. The group that ate raw swordfish absorbed just 2%

    • With cooked fats, the body simply doesn't know what to do with it and typically ends up absorbing it.

      @Swansven Yeah this is complex topic. Different synthetic chemicals (toxins) have different bond types and strengths. Usually synthetic chemicals are more strongly bonded so they dont even breakdown easily on heat. So cooking just destroys the vitamins and leaves most of the toxins.

        I’ve seen many primals online mention that certain cuts of meat need to be cooked such as oxtail due to the collagenous tissue that will cause problems in the body if eaten raw, I know excellent health mentioned it once, I forgot his specific reasoning but I know he mentioned some sort of health implications if you ate oxtail raw.

          @Jack Yea that is another thing to consider. More collagenous cuts of meat were probably the only part of an animal that was cooked. Your body has difficulty digesting raw collagen because of the structure of it.

            @Swansven It's also better to cook organs if they aren't organic/are vaccinated and fed a bad diet. Aajonus mentioned this multiple times that animals store toxins in their glands. He also mentioned how he had a bad experience with raw beef liver because it wasn't organic so he got sick. Otherwise I cant really think of a scenario where it's better to cook it.

              @Jack well do you really think cooking it is going to change that? You might get less symptoms because your body doesn't know how to detox it and there's less bacteria, but it's better for you to ingest it and get "sick" than to eat it and have the toxins sitting inside of you
