I got some new oysters on Friday from whole foods. I asked for the ones with the most meat on them and that's what they gave me. I cracked them open and there was a bunch of meat in there. I noticed there was like no liquid in there though. I popped the meat into my mouth and it just tasted like poop from a butt. It was pretty bad. It tasted kind of like brussel sprouts mixed with herbs and spices. It wasn't salty or briny whatsoever like the ones I've had before. It was just the worst. Why would it taste like that?

    Enjoy the raw milk

@Swansven Almost certainly the oysters were dead, they should be consumed alive when there is still water inside always. thats why the box they are storaged should be open with air holes for them to get oxygen.

@Rabbi I've eaten oysters that were 2 weeks old and they didn't taste anything like that. I think it's the particular species to be honest i don't know though.

@Swansven i think its bacterial decomposition from dead oysters. Oysters should always have taste of sea and freshness. I am so sure. The oysters were just improperly storaged at some point after harvest.

@Rabbi They probably have similar nutritional value though right?

@Swansven fresh is always better than not fresh. the second animal is not alive the environment starts taking advantage of it, microbes or just physical breakdown (oxidation).

@Rabbi I mean, all the mineral components are still contained inside of the oyster, so I would at least get the minerals, which is what I'm after, right?
